It Is Fundamentally Wrong for Strawberry to Criticize Teammates

Fred Claire should consider getting acquainted with the realities of human behavior. Does Claire really think that the Dodgers’ unwillingness to negotiate contract extensions will not affect the play of potential free agents. If he does, perhaps he should consider seeking some insights from the Dodger staff psychologist. It’s only human for players such as Eddie Murray to resent the Dodgers’ wait-and-see attitude toward him.

Murray is only 35 years old and he’s been playing courageously with a rib injury for months. Players like Carlton Fisk, Dave Winfield and Nolan Ryan are playing effectively into their late 30s and early 40s. Before the Dodgers lose Murray, they should consider extending his contract, or face the dismal possibility of Eric Karros becoming the next Greg Brock.
