*** Roseanna Vitro, “Reaching for the Moon,” CMG. The New York-based contemporary jazz singer with the husky alto pretty much sticks to business, not indulging her potentially mile-wide vibrato or sudden and distracting swoops in range. Her Brazilian feel, especially on Milton Nascimento’s “Song of Salt,” in which she sings in both Portuguese and English, is impressive. Pianist Kenny Werner’s ace accompaniment is a plus, as are the vital saxophone solos from George Coleman and Joe Lovano.

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to five (a classic).
