Pacific Loses to Cal State Sacramento Despite 590 Yards of Offense, 43-40

Jim Crouch kicked a 47-yard field goal with 4:25 left to put Cal State Sacramento ahead en route to a 43-40 victory over University of the Pacific Saturday night.

The Tigers had 590 yards of total offense to Sacramento’s 458.

Sacramento running back Troy Mills rushed for 193 yards, including a touchdown, and caught five passes for 75 yards. Wide receiver Joe Little had four receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

Pacific was led by quarterback Troy Kopp, who completed 31 of 48 passes for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Ryan Benjamin rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

Benjamin became the first Tiger to run for more than 200 yards since Louis Herrell rushed for 226 in 1974.

Jason Edwards, who had nine receptions for the Tigers, scored on a 25-yard pass from Kopp as Pacific took a 14-13 lead in the first quarter, but Brian Allred returned the kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. The Hornets extended the lead to 26-14 on Mills’ 15-yard touchdown run with 1:42 left in the second quarter.
