Public Locked Out of Hearings on Mall

Regarding “Mini-Malls’ Prospects Get Brighter in Fog” (Times, Aug. 18).
The Times’ article on a maxed-out three-story commercial mall proposed for 601 Ocean Front Walk in Venice reported Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s insistence on having a crucial hearing before the Coastal Commission set in Eureka, 700 miles from Los Angeles.
Galanter said the public would be able to attend a second hearing on the mall in Los Angeles. In fact, the second hearing has been scheduled for San Diego and the public has effectively been locked out of both hearings.
Galanter has gone to great extremes to make sure this mall gets approved regardless of the consequences to the community or to the public’s enjoyment of the beachfront.
