The New Jersey Devils were awarded defenseman Scott Stevens as compensation for the St. Louis Blues’ signing of Brendan Shanahan. St. Louis officials offered winger Rod Brind’Amour and backup goaltender Curtis Joseph and either a third- or fourth-round pick in next year’s entry draft to the Devils. But arbitrator Judge Edward J. Houston sided with New Jersey’s request for Stevens, the Blues’ captain last year.
