OUTLOOK

Bland spent two years as an assistant to Tom Meiss, who rejuvenated the program before resigning last winter. During Meiss’ two years, the Panthers were 15-8-2 and reached the Division VII title game in 1989. He didn’t leave the cupboard bare. White, who has good speed and is a shifty runner, is back. Bland also said he has a fast trio of receivers in Bowker, Burns and Holmes. The key will be whether Kimbwala, a converted defensive back, can get the ball to them. “We want to be balanced and that means we have to put the ball in the air,” Bland said. The defense is solid up front, and White and Kimbwala have experience in the secondary. The running game and defense should be strong enough to get the Panthers to the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
