Teddy Stauffer; ‘Mr. Acapulco’ Helped Form Resort

Teddy Stauffer, 84, former husband of film star Hedy Lamarr who was known as “Mr. Acapulco.” Considered a driving force in turning Acapulco into a playground for the rich and famous, the Swiss-born sometime actor first managed Acapulco’s Casablanca Hotel. He opened Ciro’s, the area’s first nightclub, then created La Perla restaurant and nightclub. In 1956, he opened his Villa Vera Hotel and Racquet Club, which played host to Elizabeth Taylor, Mike Todd, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Brigitte Bardot and Lana Turner. Stauffer for many years spearheaded the Acapulco Film Festival. In Acapulco on Aug. 27 of heart failure.
