OUTLOOK

The Raiders have won only two games in the past three years and lost five returning starters who quit since the 1990 season ended. Among the missing is two-way returning starter Scott Spears (defensive end-tight end), who failed to report for summer workouts. “There have been a lot of question marks here for the past six or seven years,” Sonora Coach Terry Cox said. “I’ve changed the entire offensive structure from the I-formation to a run-and-shoot set for several reasons. We have average talent, and the new offense will cut down on injuries and get more people involved.” The Raiders averaged only 7.8 points last year. Cox performed double duty this summer, coaching the Raiders and then coaching his 12-year-old son’s Junior All-American team in San Gabriel. Henry Noh earned all-league honors as an offensive lineman last year as a sophomore.
