From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Three inmate firefighters were injured--one of them seriously--battling a wind-driven blaze Saturday in rugged Trinity County that charred an estimated 400 acres. Authorities said at least one family was evacuated from the area, about six miles southeast of Hayfork, an isolated ranching community about 250 miles north of San Francisco. The blaze was located on federal land in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. An inmate of the Trinity River Conservation Camp suffered a collapsed lung and two other inmates, all of whom were volunteers, suffered minor injuries when a dead tree fell on them as they were fighting the fire.
