Education Group Honors Cal State L.A. Professor
A Cal State Los Angeles professor of chemistry and biochemistry was named Tuesday as California professor of the year by a national organization of education experts.
The honor for Prof. Phoebe K. Dea cited the large number of her undergraduate students who go on to graduate programs in science or health fields and her efforts to encourage women and minorities to enter those professions. The award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, based in Washington, also provides a $1,000 stipend from the Merck Co. Foundation.
“Many of our students have the potential. They just need someone to build up their confidence and they are well on their way,” said Dea.
