Two men arrested by Glendale police in the theft of more than 100 pieces of luggage from airline passengers have pleaded guilty to grand theft charges.

After Luis Munoz Cardenas, 40, of Glendale, and Jorge Castillo, 42, entered their pleas in Pasadena Superior Court on Monday, Judge Paul Boland sentenced each to 16 months in state prison, court officials said.

Cardenas and Castillo were arrested July 9 after Glendale narcotics officers, who believed they were on the trail of a drug smuggling ring, saw the men take a suitcase from an outdoor baggage carousel at the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport, according to police reports. In Cardenas’ apartment in Glendale, investigators said they found more than 100 pieces of luggage, apparently stolen from the Burbank airport, Los Angeles International Airport and other sites.
