CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : RIVERSIDE : Vandals Set Fire to Funeral Home
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Vandals set fire to a Riverside mortuary and accidentally knocked over a coffin containing a body, authorities said. Riverside Fire Capt. Rusty Bell said the body and four others in another room of the Tillman Riverside Mortuary were not damaged by the early morning fire. However, a funeral service had to be moved because of smoke damage in the mortuary’s chapel. Investigators were seeking suspects and a motive for the blaze, which caused an estimated $35,000 in damage.
