Abbott Leaves a Long Memory

I searched Allan Malamud’s column for some mention of Jim Abbott’s 16th victory. Malamud apparently considered the feat less important than the Coliseum clock, Iowa, Jim Gott and the U.S. hockey team.

Or is he hoping we will forget that he advocated sending Abbott to the minor leagues to make room for Fernando Valenzuela.
