WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A man turned a badge stolen from an “Officer of the Year” plaque into a bonanza of discounted food and lodging and even talked people into buying cocaine for his so-called investigations, officials said.
Sherman Michael Insco, 27, was held without bond after his arrest for investigation of stealing a gold badge from the police station in Winter Garden, about 15 miles northwest of Orlando.
Insco was in Orange County jail on charges of impersonating an officer, grand theft and petty theft.
