Betty J. Weiland, a retired operating room supervisor for whom Northridge Hospital Medical Center named a surgery center, has died in a Northridge hospital. She was 67.

A Northridge resident, Mrs. Weiland died Friday of cancer, said her husband, Charles P. Weiland Sr.

Born in Chicago, she was graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Evanston, Ill., and worked at St. Francis Hospital before taking a position at another hospital in Chicago. She moved to California in 1953 and worked at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica before joining Northridge Hospital Medical Center in 1956. She became operating room supervisor and retired from the hospital in 1989.

Last month, Mrs. Weiland attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Betty J. Weiland Ambulatory Surgery Center. In her honor, a group of Northridge Hospital Medical Center-affiliated physicians has pledged to raise $1 million toward the construction of the surgery center.

Mrs. Weiland was a member of the San Fernando Valley Quilters club.

In addition to her husband of 44 years, Mrs. Weiland is survived by her sons, Thomas Weiland of Northridge, Charles Weiland Jr. and Christopher Weiland, both of Thousand Oaks; sister, Phyllis Jones, of Bradenton, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills at 10400 Zelzah Ave. Burial will be private. Bastian & Perrott Mortuary in Northridge is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Weiland’s name to the Betty J. Weiland Ambulatory Surgery Center at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
