PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Ben Thomas Signed; Jenkins Goes on Injured Reserve

Share

The Rams placed tackle Robert Jenkins (hyper-extended right toe) on the injured reserve list and signed defensive tackle Ben Thomas, who was one of the team’s last cuts.

The Rams have five on injured reserved and are going with only six injury-free offensive linemen. They hope tackle Jackie Slater (sore right shoulder) will be available in an emergency.

“We feel like if we can get to the (bye week Oct. 6) without any more injuries, we’ll get everybody back,” Coach John Robinson said.

And Robinson, whose team faces the San Francisco 49ers on the road and the Green Bay Packers at home the next two weeks, has a specific goal he hopes to reach at the bye week.

“I’m looking for two wins or a split, and if we’re either 3-2 or 2-3, I think we’re on track to get back into the race,” Robinson said.

Robinson said that defensive tackle Mike Piel (dislocated shoulder) will miss Sunday’s game, linebacker Fred Strickland (sore left knee) is doubtful and defensive tackle Alvin Wright (sore right shoulder) probably will at least suit up. . . . While Ram receivers have combined for 13 receptions in the past two weeks for 154 yards, five players have produced as many or more: Buffalo’s Thurman Thomas (17 catches, 147 yards), Detroit’s Robert Clark (15 for 200), San Francisco’s Jerry Rice (13 for 235), Philadelphia’s Fred Barnett (13 for 178) and Houston’s Haywood Jeffires (13 for 151).
