The annual Poway Days celebration begins today and runs through Oct. 6.
A parade boasting more horses than cars will travel down the main street of town at 10 a.m. “Half the people in town line up to watch,” a Poway Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman said, adding that the other half are in the parade. Poway Road will be closed from west of Pomerado Road to Community Road, from 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m.
At noon, a chili cook-off will be held at Community Park. There also will be food and game booths and three entertainment stages. The day will end with a fireworks display.
Sunday’s main event is a Tour de Poway bike ride. On Sept. 28, an evening barbecue will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight. Sept. 29 events include a trail ride and an open house at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.
Poway Days’ main attraction--the rodeo--will be Oct. 4-5 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Poway Valley Riders Assn. arena.
Other events include an authentic Civil War artillery brigade encampment today at Community Park; a baseball game pitting the city of Poway against Poway Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Poway, and the crowning of Miss California Rodeo at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 at the rodeo grounds.
