A Canoga Park man was in jail Saturday in connection with the shooting death of a man in an Encino parking lot last week, Los Angeles police said.

Patrick O’Reilly Sullivan, 31, was arrested Friday and was being held without bail at the West Valley jail, said Sgt. Ted Hanson.

Sullivan had earlier been named as a suspect in the death of Dana Robert Challman, 41, of Van Nuys, who was killed Thursday morning during an argument in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant on Ventura Boulevard, Hanson said.

Police arrested Sullivan Friday evening after motorists on the northbound San Diego Freeway in West Los Angeles reported seeing a man firing a weapon into the air. One of the motorists, a photographer with the Daily News, contacted authorities on his two-way radio, Hanson said. California Highway Patrol officers located Sullivan on the southbound Hollywood Freeway in North Hollywood. They found a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol in Sullivan’s car and arrested him on suspicion of recklessly discharging a firearm, Hanson said.

They later learned that he was being sought by police.

Sullivan is also a suspect in the robbery and attempted murder of a man in a Silver Lake bar Thursday, Hanson said.

“In that incident, Sullivan is suspected of shooting a man in the neck after the man refused to give him some money,” Hanson said.

The shooting victim was hospitalized, but later was released in good condition.
