PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Whittier Christian’s Cuccia Runs for 304 Yards, Five Touchdowns

Jacob Cuccia rushed for 304 yards and five touchdowns Saturday as Whittier Christian overwhelmed Mammoth, 55-20, in a nonleague football game at Mammoth.

Whittier Christian (2-0) rolled up 563 yards, 481 on the ground. Cuccia had touchdown runs of four, 59, three, two and 82 yards among his 22 carries.

The Heralds held Mammoth to 16 yards rushing and almost had a shutout in the second half. Mammoth scored on an 82-yard kickoff return as time expired for its only second-half points.

Los Angeles Murphy 33, Orange Lutheran 13--Luis Williams rushed for 103 yards in 14 carries and scored two touchdowns as Los Angeles Murphy buried Orange Lutheran in a nonleague game at Orange Lutheran.

Williams scored on runs of three and four yards for the Nobles (1-1). The Lancers (1-1) were limited to two yards rushing and four first downs. Murphy had 15 first downs and 442 yards in total offense, including 263 yards rushing.

“We were dominated up front,” Orange Lutheran Coach Tim Taube said. “We talked about it at halftime, but we weren’t able to do anything about it.”

Orange Lutheran closed the within 19-6 when Lenny Gavin hit Cory Fleming with a 63-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. But that was as close as the Lancers would get as the Nobles built a 26-6 lead early in the second half.

Fleming also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Gavin late in the game to make it 26-13.
