Children Stabbed to Death; Mother Held

A Monterey Park mother stabbed her two young children to death Sunday before attempting to take her own life, police said.

Diana Covarrubias, 25, was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center where she was treated for stab wounds and booked on suspicion of murder, investigators said.

Police called the stabbings a homicide and suicide attempt. The incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. in an apartment in the 1400 block of College View Drive in Monterey Park.

The children, 2 and 6, were dead at the scene.

Police were alerted after a relative discovered Covarrubias and her two children bleeding in their apartment, officers said.
