Anaheim police said Monday that they are searching for two bike-riding suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old Anaheim boy, who was gunned down over the weekend during a party in a crowded alley.

Robert Mota, known by friends as “Weasel,” died early Saturday morning, several hours after he was hit once in the chest with an unspecified caliber weapon, Anaheim Police Detective Georgia Walton said.

Police said they have little information to work on and declined to release many details. “It’s still under investigation,” Walton said.

Walton said Mota was visiting friends about 11:30 p.m. Friday when two gunmen, reportedly on bicycles, rode into the alleyway between Kroeger and Melrose streets, past the crowd, and opened fire.

“There were numerous casings found at the scene,” Walton said. One of the rounds struck Mota.

According to witnesses, about 50 people were in the alley at the time of the attack, drinking and listening to music.

Some of the witnesses said they believe the attack was gang related and reported that the assailants yelled, “Travelers,” the name of a local Anaheim gang, as they fired into the crowd.

No other injuries were reported.
