The Ventura County employees union has endorsed two pro-growth candidates and the slow-growth incumbent for election to three seats on the Ventura City Council.
The 6,000-member Public Employees Assn. of Ventura County (AFL-CIO Local 998) endorsed incumbent Deputy Mayor Donald Villeneuve, a slow-growth advocate. The membership also endorsed nursery owner Greg Carson and labor attorney Tom Buford.
The union screened the field of 18 candidates with questionnaires, narrowing them to five who were questioned extensively by members of several Ventura County unions.
The group chose Villeneuve, Carson and Buford because they “satisfied the committee as to their understanding and stances on both labor and community issues,” according to a union announcement.
The union also endorsed Judy Alexandre, a Ventura family counselor, as a candidate for the Ventura Unified School District Board. Alexandre served on the school board from 1985 to 1989.
