North County traffic was slowed Saturday morning following an accident in which a truck overturned, spilling more than 8 yards of concrete over the westbound lanes of Highway 76, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. when the driver of the truck suddenly lost control and crossed the center median about a mile west of Valley Center Road.

A motorcyclist spilled his bike trying to avoid the runaway truck, which turned over when it struck the median. Both drivers were slightly injured.

Traffic was bogged down for more than three hours as rescue workers scrambled to remove the concrete from the road.

“They had to work fast,” said Martha Pfrommer, a California Department of Forestry dispatcher. “It started to harden. And that really slowed things down.”
