Leave Taos Alone

Share

As a Santa Fe native, I am responding to your article, “Taos: Like Santa Fe Used to Be,” Sept. 15. As you state, Taos has always been a great place to visit. However, making your point by having to degrade Santa Fe was in poor taste.

Santa Fe used to be a small town full of natives before rich Californians and New Yorkers bought it up and was a lot like you described Taos to be. This transformation of Santa Fe happened because writers visited and wrote many articles describing the splendor of New Mexico. By publishing your article, I would hope that tourists don’t begin to show up in Taos with lots of money to spend on land and “cliche” art. Please keep the joy of visiting New Mexico to yourself so that natives can enjoy the “Land of Enchantment” for years to come.
