UAW Extends Pact With Caterpillar: The United Auto Workers union extended its contract with Caterpillar Inc. so that it can focus its attention on Deere & Co., which faces a strike deadline today. The contract extension averted a strike by 17,000 Caterpillar workers in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Colorado. The Deere negotiations involve 13,000 blue-collar workers in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Georgia, Colorado and Kansas.
