COUNTYWIDE : Commission Offers Bicycle-Route Maps

Share

Updated maps of bicycle routes throughout Ventura County are now available free of charge from the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

County residents can find the maps at public libraries around the county or at city halls in each of the county’s 10 cities, said Donna Cole, a spokeswoman for the commission.

Residents may also have the maps sent to them by calling the commission at 654-2888.

Cole said the maps, first issued last year, were recently updated.

They depict three classes of bicycle routes that run through the county:

* Class 1 routes are separated from motor vehicle traffic and, in most cases, run alongside flood-control channels, Cole said.

* Class 2 routes run parallel to motor vehicle traffic lanes, and are usually marked with a painted line and signs.

* Class 3 lanes are those shared with motor vehicles and are marked only by signs warning drivers to watch for bicyclists.
