A 42-year-old transient believed to have been involved in a rash of bank robberies in Southern California this year has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Thomas Henry Edwards was arrested Monday by Costa Mesa police shortly after a Fountain Valley bank was robbed, according to FBI spokesman John Hoos.

A man handed a note to a teller at Queen City Bank at 18020 Brookhurst St. about 3 p.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Fountain Valley police dispatcher Rusty Speer.

Based on a description of the robber and his car, Costa Mesa police followed a vehicle that turned into Orange Coast College, where Edwards was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery, Speer said.

Edwards is scheduled to be arraigned today before U.S. Magistrate Ronald Rose, Hoos said.
