Boole & Babbage Inc. announced the appointment of Paul Newton as president and chief executive of the information systems software company.

Newton replaced Hans Bruggeling, who was president and chief executive of the company since July, 1988. Bruggeling will assume the post of executive vice president of international operations.

Newton was named executive vice president of the Sunnyvale-based firm in August, 1991. Prior to his position at Boole & Babbage, Newton was president of Ingres Corp., a database management supplier, and senior vice president at UCCEL, a software business.
