Temple City : Split on Dividing Buildings

Share

The City Council on Tuesday approved the division of one commercial building but denied permission to divide another.

The council voted unanimously to allow a bookkeeping service to occupy the front part of the former Dominic’s Shoes at 9629 Las Tunas Drive, while storage facilities for the shoe store chain occupy the back.

About 10 business people spoke in favor of the division. They argued that although a retail store might be preferable, the building space would probably remain empty if the city refused to allow a service business.

In the other case, an applicant sought to divide the former Massie’s store at 9520 Las Tunas into three 20-foot-by-110-foot stores.

The council denied the request, saying the stores would be too narrow.
