Selling Zoo Animals
I read with mild dismay the story concerning the San Diego Zoo’s sale of excess animals to Texas hunting ranches. It seems to me that a much more economical and humane means of disposing of these animals would be to put them down painlessly and feed their remains to the resident carnivores and scavengers in the zoo itself.
This pragmatic approach would seem to be especially desirable at the Los Angeles Zoo, which has been notoriously underfunded by the city.
