CAMARILLO : School Panel to Pick Replacement Trustee

Share

Camarillo’s Pleasant Valley school board decided Thursday night to appoint a replacement for Trustee Maria Tejada, who resigned this week because she is moving out of the country.

Tejada, who left the board Monday, is moving to Panama, where her husband’s family lives. Tejada notified the other four members of the elementary school district’s board of trustees of her resignation on Sept. 19. Elected in 1988, Tejada’s term expires in November, 1992.

The board had the choice of a special election or appointing someone to serve out Tejada’s term. The board chose to appoint a replacement because a special election would have cost an estimated $42,000 and taken months to arrange.

The board has 60 days to make the appointment. Thirty days after the appointment, registered voters in Camarillo may petition for a special election.

During her three-year tenure, Tejada, 40, was most active on the child-care committee. She also worked full-time in administration at the Camarillo State Hospital and Developmental Center.

The board is scheduled to decide on a procedure for selecting a new trustee at its next meeting Oct. 18.
