Hotel Bed Tax Increase Proposed
The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council introduced an ordinance Tuesday that would increase the 6% hotel bed tax to 10%. The measure taxes hotel rooms and promises to put the city on a more firm financial footing should the Long Point resort be built. The California Coastal Commission recently approved plans for the 450-room resort complex, but completion is at least a couple of years away.
This year, the tax increase would bring the city treasury an additional $2,000, if the measure is adopted as expected at the next council meeting Oct. 15. The ordinance would become effective Nov. 14.
