Allen Wants to Cut It in Mainstream

Ginger Lynn Allen, the former adult-film star, has had a tough time getting where she wants to be: “A respected working actress in mainstream films.”

Even though she has been studying acting for five years, most of her serious acting efforts have fallen to the cutting room floor. Her scenes in Blake Edwards’ comedy “Skin Deep” were dropped. In “Young Guns II,” she was on camera for a fleeting 10 seconds. Her dance number as a stripper in the upcoming “Leather Jackets” was also butchered.

Then, after shooting her meatiest role as Theresa Russell’s prostitute buddy in director Ken Russell’s newly released “Whore,” the film was slapped with an NC-17 rating. And--surprise!--her role was cut to a bloody flashback death scene with no dialogue.

The small-town girl from Rockford, Ill., has been queried plenty about dating “Young Guns II” star Charlie Sheen.

“He makes me feel accepted, and he doesn’t judge me at all,” Allen says. “He loves me for who I am and what I am, and my past doesn’t matter to him.”

If she had her career to do over again, Allen confesses she would not start where she did. But she apologizes for nothing.

“What makes a former adult-film star any different than any other actor?” Allen wonders. “If you want to laugh you see a comedy. If you want to cry you see a drama. If you want to get turned on you do adult films. I started in a different area of the industry. It doesn’t make me any more or less of an actress.”
