A University of Dayton study indicates religion is almost ignored on prime-time network television.

Communications Prof. Tom Skill, who examined 100 prime-time programs, said only 6.5% of the 1,395 fictional characters on those shows did anything specifically religious or displayed any religious behavior, such as praying, attending church or talking about religion.

He said the study, in which seven research assistants reviewed a random sample of programming on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox network, suggests religion is an “invisible institution” in the media.
