From Times Staff and Wire Reports

D. L. Seagert says a black bear spent so much time perched in a tree in his front yard that he considered throwing a party. The 400-pound California black bear came visiting Thursday morning and stayed nearly 12 hours as neighbors and state wildlife officials gawked and tried to figure out how to get it down. “I wanted to have a party, but no one wanted to,” Seagert said after most of his neighbors had gone home. A state Fish and Game officer decided it would be best to leave the bear alone in its perch 90 feet up in a pine tree. Shortly after 7 p.m., the bear finally climbed down. Wildlife Officer Gerald Irwin said leaving wayward bears alone is the best policy.
