Fullerton to See Potent Offense From Pacific
Cal State Fullerton’s primary objective will be to keep Pacific’s offense off the field as much as possible today when the Titans (1-3) play Pacific (0-4) in a Big West Conference opener at Stagg Memorial Stadium.
Despite their record, the Tigers have a prolific offense that has averaged 29.8 points and 475 total yards.
Quarterback Troy Kopp has passed for 1,089 yards and nine touchdowns. Running back Ryan Benjamin leads the nation in all-purpose yards with an average of 273.8 and is third in rushing with a 156.3-yard average. Receivers Aaron Turner, Jason Edwards and Daryl Hobbs have caught at least 21 passes and have three touchdowns apiece.
Fullerton plans to counter with its own ground attack, which has been fairly successful in terms of controling the ball. The Titans’ average time of possession is 33 minutes 29 seconds, compared to opponents’ 26:31.
Running backs Arthur Davis, with a 133.3-yard average, and Reggie Yarbrough, with a 110.8-yard average, rank second and third, respectively, among conference rushers behind Benjamin. Both are recovering from ankle injuries but are expected to play.
