AIDS in Hollywood: The Brad Davis Fallout
Davis was right in not disclosing that he had AIDS. Nobody should criticize him for not coming forward.
He was smart enough to know what kind of business he was in; Hollywood is indeed cruel. Countless celebrities and studio executives have donated their time to the AIDS cause because it is hip. But when it comes to facing the problem, Hollywood has run away.
If Davis had come out with his condition, he would have been known as “the AIDS-infected actor.” He would have done fund-raisers and appeared on talk shows--and become a pawn for the entertainment business.
