Drucker Didn’t Invent Science of Management

In the column on Peter Drucker, “From Communism to Chrysler: Pointed Views From Drucker” (Sept. 17), Dan Akst states that “he realized the importance of management when the term was almost unknown. He may have invented it as a field of study.”

May I point out that the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration began operating in October, 1908. I’m an admirer of Drucker too, but let’s not get carried away.
