Gregory T. Parkos, president and chief operating officer of Whittaker Corp., will retire at the end of October, the company announced.

The 61-year-old Parkos will remain as a director of the Westwood-based aerospace company and will serve as a consultant, a Whittaker spokesman said. Whittaker Chairman and Chief Executive Joseph F. Alibrandi will assume the title of president.

Parkos’ retirement is a result of the recent downsizing of the firm.
