La Puente : Council Seeks More Power

Share

A measure that strips the mayor of the exclusive right to nominate candidates to the Planning Commission was tentatively approved by the City Council Tuesday.

The proposal gives all council members the right to appoint candidates, with a majority vote still required for confirmation.

In a related matter, the council also introduced a measure that cuts the term of planning commissioners from four to two years, beginning next April.

Both items were approved on 3-2 votes, with Mayor Charles H. Storing and Councilman Manuel Garcia dissenting. Final votes on the measures are scheduled for the Oct. 22 council meeting.
