CAMARILLO : Hearing on Outlet Center to Continue

Share

The Camarillo Planning Commission will resume its hearing Oct. 29 on a massive shopping center proposed for farmland in east Camarillo, commissioners decided after listening to more than four hours of public testimony.

Before the Tuesday hearing was suspended, 40 people spoke to the commission about the factory outlet center proposed by the Sammis Co. of Irvine for an 86 1/2-acre parcel south of the Ventura Freeway and east of Pleasant Valley Road.

All but two who testified were critical of the project.

Another 38 people who signed up to speak were still waiting to testify or had left Tuesday’s hearing before it ended, city planners said.

The level of interest shown in the Sammis project is unusual, said Planning Director Tony Boden, who noted that the 78 individuals who asked to speak may be a record number for any project within the city.

The hearing will resume at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the council chambers of the Camarillo City Hall at 601 Carmen Drive.
