Take this with as many grains of salt as you like, but filming is scheduled to get under way Friday in Ventura County on the Period Films Inc. production of “Charlie,” about the life of film legend Charlie Chaplin.

Sure, you say, didn’t we hear that back in March? Yes, that was when location scouts began searching for appropriate settings. At about the same time, however, the film lost some financial backing and things were put on hold. Now the sites have been found, the sets have been built and everything seems ready to go.

The first filming location will be the Sanitary (or Hardison) Dairy site on Old Telegraph Road west of Fillmore. The place has been made up to look like the old Mack Sennett studio. The action is scheduled to move on to the Santa Paula Depot and to Pasadena Avenue in Bardsdale.

“Charlie” stars Robert Downey Jr. as Chaplin and is being directed by Sir Richard Attenborough.

Speaking of Charlie Chaplin, the Ojai Film Society and the Ojai Playhouse will show seven of the actor’s short movies as part of Saturday’s Ojai Day Community Festival. The list includes “The Cure,” “Easy Street,” “One A.M.,” “The Pawnshop,” “The Floorwalker” and “The Rink.” All of the films are circa 1916 and about 20 minutes long. They will be shown from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. Admission is free. The playhouse is at 145 E. Ojai Ave. For information, call 646-8946.

The Adventure Travel Film Series at the Oxnard Civic Auditorium gets going Sunday with a showing of “Lindbergh’s Historic Flight: San Diego to Paris,” narrated in person by Robin Williams.

No, not that Robin Williams. This Robin Williams, though reportedly possessing a good sense of humor, is not a comedian but a cinematographer and lecturer. He received his cinematography training at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara.

Williams’ film follows Charles Lindbergh’s flight from San Diego to Paris by tracking the route from the ground. Show time is 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $6.50. The auditorium is at 800 Hobson Way. For information, call 486-2424.
