Police on Thursday were searching for an Oxnard man suspected of shooting another man in the head after an argument over a woman.

Police, who refused to identify the suspect, said Ricardo Rodriguez Gonzalez, 23, was shot in the head after the two men had fought about 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Gonzalez apparently won the fight, prompting the man to get a gun and shoot Gonzalez, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Denny Philipps.

Police on patrol in the area of Cooper Road and Hayes Avenue found Gonzalez walking down the street, apparently dazed from the wound.

He was treated for a superficial gunshot wound to the head at St. John’s Regional Medical Center early Thursday and was released.

Philipps said Gonzalez was “a lucky, lucky guy,” adding that it is unusual for bullet wounds to the head to be so minor.

The suspect is expected to be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, Philipps said.
