Another 2-year-old drowned Thursday in a back-yard swimming pool as his parents frantically looked for him--the second toddler this week to drown in a family pool in this city.

Michael Hoffman, 22 months, died about 9 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Anaheim Police Officer Joe Karns said.

Two hours earlier, each of the child’s parents apparently thought he was with the other and panicked when the realization came that he was missing, according to authorities. They found him floating in the pool minutes later. The accident occurred on South Nautical Street.

Thursday’s death brings to at least eight the number of children who have drowned in Orange County this year.

On Monday, the Police Department received a call shortly after 4 p.m. of a possible drowning on North Laguna Street. The call was relayed to the Fire Department, where the caller was given instructions over the phone for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

That victim, Cindy Vu, 23 months old, had no pulse when paramedics arrived, Anaheim Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Wilkes said. Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive the child.

The two drownings occurred about 7 miles apart.
