MSL Firms Up Plans for Postseason, All-Star Game

The Major Soccer League has made plans for its postseason and All-Star Game.

Four of the seven teams will advance to the playoffs for best-of-seven semifinal then championship series. The All-Star Game (Feb. 13 in Baltimore) will feature a West team made up of players from the Sockers, Tacoma, St. Louis and Wichita against an East team with players from Dallas, Cleveland and the Blast.

In other news, the Sockers announced they will retire two more numbers during a halftime ceremony Nov. 10 against Baltimore.

Jean Willrich’s No. 15 and Kaz Deyna’s No. 10 will join Juli Veee’s No. 22 as the only jerseys retired by the nine-time indoor champions.

TENNIS

PLNC’s Andrew Patton advanced to today’s semifinals of the NAIA Rolex Men’s Intercollegiate tennis championships with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Dan McArthur of Southern California College at PLNC. The Crusaders’ Scott Dickey and Sean Willete had byes through to the semifinals of the doubles tournament.

Marisa Clancy and Tiffany Puckett of PLNC play in the women’s doubles semifinals after being given byes in the first two rounds.

BASEBALL

The Padres announced they have renewed the contracts of announcers Jerry Coleman, Bob Chandler and Ted Leitner for the 1992. Rick Monday is signed through the 1992 season.

MEN’S SOCCER

Point Loma Nazarene dropped to 1-9 after a 4-2 loss to host Christ College of Irvine in a nonconference game. Steve Gulbranson and Noel Pekel scored for PLNC. CCI improved to 4-7-1.

RUNNING

Nancy Ditz, who won the 1988 Olympic Trials marathon, has entered the Arturo Barrios Invitational Oct. 20. Ditz finished third in the 1990 Barrios Invitational.
