Surgeon and Wife Get 65-Year Terms in Death of Child, 5
A surgeon and his wife, a former pediatrics nurse, each received 65-year prison terms Friday for the murder and neglect of his 5-year-old daughter.
Dr. Gary D. Shipley and Gloria Anne Shipley, both 35, were convicted Aug. 21 of the November, 1990, death of Amy, his 5-year-old daughter by a previous marriage.
Autopsy reports showed the child was malnourished and dehydrated when she choked and died after vomiting a milk formula laced with black pepper.
“I didn’t see any remorse over her death from either of you. I see remorse for the situation you’re in,” Lake Superior Court Judge James Letsinger told the Shipleys.
