An unidentified migrant worker was killed, but authorities weren’t sure if it was because he was stabbed or because he was run over by a car after stumbling into the street.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a call at 2:30 a.m. Sunday that a man in his mid- to late 20s had staggered into the roadway in the 100 block of El Camino Real.

When deputies arrived, they saw the victim on the street but, before they could reach him, a motorist drove over him--and kept on going, homicide Sgt. Manny Castillo said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Minn Lee, 24, was pursued and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and suspicion of hit-and-run driving. Lee was being held at the County Jail in Vista.

As paramedics tended to the victim--who died at the scene--it was discovered that he had suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest in addition to the injuries caused by being run over, Castillo said.

An autopsy was to be conducted to determine whether the stabbings or being hit by the car caused the victim’s death.
