Hillside Collapse Kills 15 Miners in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia —
Rescue workers searched for victims Sunday after a hillside collapsed on about three dozen miners looking for emeralds, killing 15 and injuring six.
Police Col. Alfredo Salgado told local radio that the miners were hunting for the precious stones by a stream near Quipama in the emerald region of Boyaca, 60 miles north of the capital, when the hillside collapsed Saturday.
Hundreds of miners work informally in the region, often spraying high-pressure water to clear the slopes of rocks.
