Oryx to Close Two Offices; 1,000 Jobs Lost: Oryx Energy Co. said it will close regional offices in Houston and Oklahoma City, resulting in about 1,000 job losses, as part of a plan announced earlier this month to trim $100 million in annual costs. The company employs 1,300 in the two cities. Some of the employees will be transferred to the company’s main office in Dallas. Oryx, the world’s largest independent energy company, is trying to whittle down $2.4 billion in debt resulting from its 1988 spinoff from Sun Co., international expansion and a $1-billion stock buyback. The company on Oct. 3 said it would sell assets valued at $400 million, mostly in the United States.
