A North Hollywood couple and an Illinois woman were killed when their car plunged 150 feet from a scenic road near Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, the Utah Highway Patrol reported Monday.

Authorities identified the victims of the accident Sunday as Charyl Padgett and her husband, Stephen Padgett, both 38, and Charyl Padgett’s sister, Dawn Hamilton, 29, of Chicago.

Charyl Padgett, the driver, was 22 weeks pregnant. The fetus did not survive, Sgt. Jim Lloyd said.

Stephen Padgett and Hamilton were pronounced dead at the scene near Virgin, Utah. Charyl Padgett was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, where she died about three hours later.

Lloyd said the car was traveling south on Kolob Road north of the park when it drifted to the right, overcorrected to the left and ran off the cliff about 8:45 p.m.

Lloyd said Padgett had been hiking in the Kolob area and the women had gone to pick him up.
